Bob Chesney is finally being recognized as a rising star in coaching circles
The Holy Cross coach is getting national recognition for the job he has done at the school

Bob Chesney has turned three programs around in New England. He won at Division Three Salve Regina, Division Two Assumption and now at Holy Cross.
Chesney’s career coaching record at all three stops is 83-38. He has won everywhere he has been in the 11 seasons he’s been a head coach. The Crusaders have won back to back Patriot League titles including the inaugural Patriot League title game last season.
Coming into the season, Holy Cross hadn’t met two of the goals Chesney set when he took over. A signature win and a playoff victory Well, the Crusaders crossed off the first item on that agenda off the list with their 38-28 win over UConn.
Chesney would be the first one to credit his players and coaches for his success. That is just who he is. Despite the modesty, it is hard not to credit him with the success of the programs he has led.
Chesney has a magic touch of sorts. He knows how to lead men. When you watch him on the sideline, he is always calm and under control. He never gets frazzled, he’s not yelling at the officials and he certainly isn’t yelling at his players. His style has worked and it reflects in the performance of his teams.
Success is directly linked to talent and the Crusaders are a talented football team which is a testament to Chesney and his recruiting efforts. He is a terrific recruiter and he has assembled a staff of quality recruiters. It is a big reason for his success everywhere he has been. He knows how to bring in the right people.
Chesney is now starting to get national recognition for his work. He was mentioned during the Alabama, Miami game yesterday when Sean McDonough referred to him as a rising star in the coaching ranks.
People in the New England coaching world have known how good a coach Chesney is for a long time and now he is being nationally recognized.
Success is typically what we judge coaches on but consistency is more important in many ways. The one thing you can say about Chesney is that he is consistent. His teams win consistently and that is why he is seen as a rising star in the coaching world.
